Fished LVD 6/5-6/8 based on the Vilas County reports we thought we might be too late for the crappie bite. Not so. Wednesday water temp was 67 and after all the rain Sat temp was 63.
We mostly drifted with the wind and dragged 1/16 jigs tipped with small white twister tails. Crappie minnows and pieces of nightcrawler also worked. Tried shorelines but not much action. Some Bluegills were still inshore. We had consistent crappie action in weeds 8 to 10ft. Also caught bigger bluegill out there. Saturday we drifted the north all day and had consistent action from slab crappies up to 12 inches.
Wind was quite variable each day but there are always places to get out of the wind on LVD. Other boats in our group worked deeper weeds with small mepps and had luck with walleyes. Had to get past lots of small northerns but they managed a nice bag of walleyes including one 24incher.

Ice: 11"
It's all in the reg book I keep in my glove box.Walked (easily with no snow) out on 11 inches of ice with a strong wind most of the time. Fished V desert all tuesday and had little to show for it. Fished Twin most of Monday but went to Big Sand too. We had suckers for pike and bugs and minnows. Waxies seemed to catch the most small pannies and perch but the cam showed a familiar scene wherever we went. Swarms of small fish pecking at baits seemed the norm on the days we fished. Deeper flats seemed barren of fish and sparse weeds had new green shoots coming up and schools drifting thru. The bright spot was a pike bite on bigger baits that hit on and off wherever we went. Eagle watching filled in the slow times.
